How it works

Three steps to your real number

No chest strap, no guesswork. Your Watch does the measuring; your phone does the thinking.

1

Measure with your Watch

A 60-second guided breathing measurement runs on Apple Watch and captures your beat-to-beat heart rhythm, the basis for real HRV.

2

Track on your phone

Your history, trends, and plain-language explanations all live in the iPhone app, clear, calm, and yours.

3

Learn your personal normal

The score isn't absolute, it's calculated from your own history, so a number finally means something for you.

New

A measured night, a modelled day

Two additions that turn a morning number into a whole day: a measured Rest Score, a modelled Body Energy that follows it, and a twenty-second check-in that keeps both honest.

Body Energy panel in StressCheck: energy level, day curve and last night's Rest Score

Body Energy & Rest Score

Each morning, the night is scored from what your Watch measured while you slept: sleep HRV, sleep length, resting heart rate, breathing and wrist temperature, each against your own recent nights. That Rest Score is where Body Energy starts; activity, tension and rest then move it through the day.

Morning check-in

A short, optional question: how rested do you feel? Answer on the phone or from the wrist. Over time StressCheck shows how your felt rest lines up with the measured night, and an optional reminder can follow your usual wake-up time.

Under the hood

Serious HRV, made calm

The metrics researchers actually use, wrapped in an interface that never makes you anxious about your anxiety.

Real HRV, done right

Beat-to-beat intervals from your Watch, artifact-cleaned and turned into lnRMSSD, the metric clinicians trust, not a vague "stress %."

Your personal normal

A baseline engine learns your usual range, so each score is a deviation from your own normal, with a confidence rating, never false precision.

Trends & what moves them

Long-term trends plus correlations with sleep, resting heart rate, respiratory rate, and the factors you tag yourself.

AI analysis, on device

An on-device AI phrases your result in plain language. The numbers are computed by our code; the model never leaves your phone.

Mood & context check-ins

Add how you actually feel and what's going on. Over time, StressCheck shows which of your factors line up with better recovery.

Watch app & widgets

Measure right from your wrist, glance at your latest score with iPhone & Watch widgets, and keep a full history in sync.

Made for the wrist

The measurement happens on Apple Watch

Your Watch reads the tiny timing changes between heartbeats that a finger-on-camera reading can't. Start a 60-second guided session on your wrist; your iPhone turns it into a score you can understand.

StressCheck measuring on Apple Watch

Your heart data never leaves your devices

StressCheck reads from Apple Health and runs entirely on your device. There's no account and no server of ours, even the AI analysis runs on-device, so nothing about your heart is ever uploaded.

FAQ

Questions people actually ask

How do you measure stress with an Apple Watch?

Start a 60-second guided session on your wrist. The Watch reads the tiny timing differences between your heartbeats, known as heart rate variability, and your iPhone turns that into one score you can read at a glance.

Why score against my own normal?

HRV varies enormously between people, so a number that means stress for one person is a calm day for another. StressCheck learns your own range and tells you where today sits inside it.

Is StressCheck free?

Yes. Unlimited measurements, your score, your personal normal, mood check-ins and the on-device AI analysis are all free, with no purchase needed. The free version keeps seven days of history; Plus opens the full record, with long-term trends, advanced metrics and correlations.

What do I need to use it?

An Apple Watch and an iPhone. The Watch takes the reading, the iPhone does the thinking. No chest strap, no extra hardware and no account.

Where is my heart data stored?

On your devices. StressCheck reads from Apple Health and runs entirely on device, even the AI analysis. There is no server of ours, so nothing about your heart is ever uploaded.

How often should I measure?

Once a day is plenty, ideally at a similar time and while sitting still. The trend over weeks tells you far more than any single reading.

What is Body Energy, and how is it different from the score?

The score is a snapshot of one measurement against your normal. Body Energy is a day-long estimate: it starts from last night's Rest Score and then spends or restores itself as your Watch records activity, an elevated heart rate without effort, calm hours and naps. It is modelled rather than measured, so the app labels it as an estimate and shows a confidence.

Do I need to wear my Watch at night?

Only for the Rest Score and the morning check-in. Sleep HRV, sleep length, night heart rate, breathing and wrist temperature are all recorded while you sleep, so without a night of data the day starts from a neutral level with low confidence. Measurements, the score and everything else work as before.
